Industrial Connector Accessories — The Detail Layer

An industrial connector installation is more than the connector itself. The small accessories — cable glands, dust caps, mounting nuts, marking sleeves, panel-mount feedthroughs, splitters, tools — are what keep the connection IP67-rated, mechanically retained, and identifiable years after installation. Katlax stocks the full accessories portfolio at our Gandhinagar facility, supplied à la carte or bundled with connector orders.

    Accessory Categories

    Cable Glands

Cable glands seal where a cable enters a junction box or panel. IP67 / IP68 rated, available in metric (M16, M20, M25, M32, M40, M50) and PG (PG-11, PG-13.5, PG-16, PG-21, PG-29) thread sizes. Materials: nickel-plated brass (standard), plastic polyamide (lightweight), and stainless steel (food / marine).

    • Standard cable glands for single round cables
    • Multi-hole glands for splitting one entry into multiple cable bundles
    • EMC glands with internal spring contacts for cable-shield bonding
    • Ex-rated glands for hazardous-area installations (ATEX / IECEx)

    Dust Caps and Sealing Plugs

Unmated connector ports lose their IP rating unless capped. Katlax dust caps come in two forms:

    • Threaded screw caps: Full IP67 / IP68 seal on the port; metal or plastic.
    • Push-on / tethered caps: Convenience caps tethered to the panel by a lanyard — quick on / off during maintenance.

    Available for every Katlax connector size: M8, M12, M23, M40, 7/8", D-Sub, USB.

    Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers

Panel-mount connectors are retained by a threaded nut on the inside of the panel. Katlax supplies the matching nut and tooth-lock washer for every M-series connector size, in nickel-plated brass (standard), stainless steel, and plastic (lightweight panels).

    Marking Sleeves and Wire Markers

Industrial-grade cable identification — heat-shrinkable sleeves with printed labels, slide-on marker sleeves, and reusable wraparound markers. Pre-printed standard markings (L1, L2, L3, PE, +24V, GND, etc.) or custom alphanumeric runs to your spec.

    Panel-Mount Feedthroughs

Front-of-panel mounting receptacles for M8, M12, M23, RJ45, USB, and D-Sub — used for exposing a port on the outside of an electrical cabinet (service technician access, mobile HMI connection, sensor branch terminations). Includes sealing rings to maintain panel IP rating.

    Splitters and Y-Cables

T-splitters and Y-cables for branching one connector signal to two devices (e.g. shared fieldbus address, parallel sensor outputs). Available in M8 and M12 configurations.

    Tools

    • M12 / M8 torque-controlled tightening wrenches (prevents over-tightening damage)
    • Field-attachable connector insertion tools
    • Crimp tools for harness-grade connector contacts
    • Cable strippers calibrated for industrial PUR / TPE jackets

    Compatibility

All Katlax accessories are designed for use with Katlax connectors, but the IEC-standardised geometry means most accessories also fit competitor M-series products (Phoenix Contact, Binder, Lumberg, Lapp, etc.). If you're sourcing accessories for a mixed-vendor installation, contact our engineering team with the competitor part number and we'll confirm compatibility before shipping.

    Bulk and Bundled Pricing

Accessories ship à la carte on small orders and at tiered pricing for bulk orders. For customers ordering connectors, accessory bundles (matching nuts, dust caps, cable glands) are quoted alongside the connector pricing — typically saves 15–25% versus separately-priced accessories.

    Why Katlax for Accessories

Buying accessories from the connector manufacturer eliminates the compatibility-checking step — Katlax cable glands fit Katlax junction boxes, Katlax dust caps fit Katlax M12s, every mounting nut is the correct thread pitch for the matching connector. For mixed installations where you need accessories that also fit competitor products, our engineering team confirms compatibility before shipping.

Certifications: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Lead times: standard stock items 1 week; custom marking-sleeve runs 2 weeks; specialty Ex-rated cable glands 3–4 weeks.

    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

    Frequently Asked Questions

    QWhy are cable glands important?

Cable glands seal the point where a cable enters a junction box or panel — without them, the IP67 / IP68 rating of the enclosure is meaningless because water, dust, or oil enters through the cable entry. They also provide strain relief, so cable pull-on doesn't transmit force to internal terminations. Every panel-mount cable should pass through a properly sized cable gland.

QHow do I know which cable gland size to use?

Match the gland thread to the panel cutout (metric M16/M20/M25/M32/M40 or PG-11/13.5/16/21/29) and the cable OD to the gland's clamping range. A gland with too-narrow a range won't seal; one with too-wide a range allows movement. Most gland datasheets list the acceptable cable OD range explicitly.

QWhy use a dust cap on an unmated connector?

Unmated ports lose their IP rating — water, dust, oil, or debris can enter the contact area and degrade connection reliability or cause shorts. Dust caps restore the IP67 seal to the unmated port. Use them on every panel-mounted connector that isn't permanently connected — junction boxes, machine-side ports, partially-populated multi-port panels.

QAre Katlax accessories compatible with other manufacturers' connectors?

Mostly yes — IEC-standardised connector geometries mean dust caps, mounting nuts, and most cable glands fit competitor M-series products (Phoenix Contact, Binder, Lapp, Lumberg, etc.). For specific cross-compatibility verification, contact our engineering team with the competitor part number and we'll confirm before shipping.

QWhat are EMC cable glands and when do I need them?

EMC cable glands include internal spring contacts that bond the cable's braid shield to the panel through a full 360° contact. Required for full EMC compliance in environments with VFDs, servo drives, or other high-EMI sources. Standard cable glands don't bond the shield — the cable shield must be terminated separately. Use EMC glands where the cable enters a panel-mount equipment ground.

QCan Katlax supply custom-printed marking sleeves?

Yes. Slide-on heat-shrink markers with custom alphanumeric runs (terminal labels, asset tags, sequence numbers). Standard pre-printed runs (L1/L2/L3, PE, +24V, GND, etc.) ship 1 week. Custom alphanumeric runs ship in 2 weeks. Minimum order 50 sleeves per unique marking string.

    QWhat are Ex-rated cable glands?

Cable glands certified for hazardous-area installations under ATEX (EU) and IECEx (international). Required where flammable atmospheres may be present — oil & gas, petrochemical, grain elevators, mining. Built with flame-path internal geometry that prevents internal sparks from igniting the surrounding atmosphere. Lead time: 3–4 weeks for Ex-rated glands due to certification batch requirements.

QDo I need a special tool to tighten M12 connectors?

For one-off installations, finger-tight is usually sufficient — the IP rating is achieved at finger-tight torque. For production assembly, use a torque-controlled wrench to apply the standard 0.4–0.6 Nm M12 torque — prevents over-tightening damage that would crack the connector housing or strip the cable jacket. Katlax stocks torque wrenches calibrated for M-series connector torque ranges.

QCan I get accessories bundled with my connector order?

Yes. Accessory bundles (matching mounting nuts, dust caps, cable glands) priced together with the connector order typically save 15–25% versus separately-priced accessories. Specify the bundle requirement on the quote — "add matching M12 dust caps for all panel-mount ports" or "include M20 PG cable glands per the junction box BOM" — and we'll quote the combined order.

QWhat's the lead time on accessories?

Standard stock items (common cable glands, dust caps, mounting nuts in standard sizes): 1 week ex-works. Custom-printed marking sleeves: 2 weeks. Specialty items (Ex-rated cable glands, stainless-steel hygienic accessories, custom Y-splitter cables): 3–4 weeks. Bulk bundled pricing is available on orders shipping with associated connector orders.
